The pre-Christmas scramble for the perfect gift is now in full swing, but fear not, we’ve got you covered! We asked our team to give us the scoop on their go-to places to buy prints; with something for every budget, these are our favourites.
Where: Posterlad
About: PosterLad is an art project by Czech designer Vratislav Pecka. His work is inspired by the Bauhaus school, making use of simple shapes alongside vivid colours.
Why: “I love the circular style of artwork.” Short and sweet, thanks Stelios!
Favourite Print: Time
Where: The Wrong Shop
About: The Wrong Shop is an online platform that sells limited-edition prints, posters and objects by notable designers and artists from around the world.
Why: “I find that when it comes to prints there’s a lot of copycatting, generic styles seem to proliferate and it makes the task of finding something genuinely interesting quite difficult. That’s why i’m a big fan of The Wrong Shop, their curated offering of refreshingly unique work sets them aside from any other retailer i’ve come across.”
Favourite Print: Frog
Where: Sergi Delgado
About: Sergi Delgado, founder of Diatomic Studio, is an Artist and Art Director based in Barcelona.
Why: “I'm a big fan of monochromatic op-art and artists like Bridget Riley. Sergi's graphic illustrative style really reminds me of that essence with a different take.”
Favourite Print: Striped Ball
Where: Messymod
About: Messymod is the brainchild of Adam Goldberg, designer at LA based agency Trüf.
Why: “I find it beautiful how versatile Adam’s illustration style is given that he generally limits himself to the use of flat organic shapes, thin fluid lines and a restricted palette. I’m a sucker for the more ‘bizarre’ kind of design, and his style fits this description perfectly.”
Favourite Print: Squawkward
Where: Risotto
About: Risotto is a Glasgow based print and design specialist run by designer Gabriella Marcella.Gabriella Marcella.
Why: “I love their stuff because they're a studio that produces these beautiful bright compositions using a risograph printer (hence the name Risotto). I'm a big stationery lover and their notebooks, notepads and planners are lovely, they use bright coloured paper too which makes the prints pop more. Their designs are playful and a little goofy without being cheesy - just hits the spot for me.”
